Tombstone Tuesday

Robert Lawrence Eley

Occasionally a family historian comes across a family member and there just isn't much to tell about him. That is the case with Robert Lawrence Eley, Daddy's half brother.

Robert Lawrence Eley was the fifth child born to Alice Lee Eley. He was the second son born. He was born to Alice Lee  and Jackson Lawrence Eley 4 June 1917 in Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana. Robert  Lawrence married Sally Bolton 17 May 1940 in Oak Grove, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana.
They had two sons Cecil and Larry Don. Uncle Lawrence and his family were not around when our family visited Granny Eley.

Memories that I have of Uncle Lawrence were of him and Aunt Sally living in Pioneer near his mother Alice. Lawrence was nine years younger than Daddy.

Uncle Lawrence died 4 August 1969 at the age of fifty-two in Pioneer, West Carroll Parish, Louisiana. The cause of his death was emphysema. The birth date on his headstone conflicts with the birth date on his World War II Draft Registration Card. Since the date on the Draft Card is closer to his actual birth date, that is the one that I think is reliable. I don't know which family member ordered the headstone or where it was ordered.

The inscription on his headstone, "Your memory is dear to us" says it all.  For family historians each family member is dear; and Robert Lawrence Eley has his place in my Eley family tree with his parents and siblings.
